LIVE EXAMINATIONStake place at our Southampton centre
Two forms of face to face examinations are available:
PERFORMANCE EXAMINATION
Consists of either:
1) all solo pieces
2) all backing track pieces
3) a mix of solo and backing track pieces
4) 3 pieces plus all rudiments for the particular grade
Equivalent grade pieces from other boards may be substituited
(copies of drum scores must be provided)
One own composition may be substituted
(copy of drum score must be provided)
LIVE EXAMINATIONS
Consists of:
1. A selection of rudiments chosen by the examiner.
played (and may be read) from this book
2. 3 pieces to be played. Either 3 solo pieces from the current grade book or
3 backing track pieces from the current list, or a mix of solo pieces and backing tracks.
Pieces of equivalent grade from other boards may be performed
1 piece may be an own choice of comparative standard
3. Supporting tests: Sight reading. Studythe piece for a maximum of 1 minute
then attempt to play the short solo piece.
Alternatively 1 piece may be a substitute piece. See 'substitute piece' section below.
Ensemble
Accompany a soundtrack chosen by the examiner.
Repetition
Repeat a phrase after a second playing by the examiner.
Time signature
On being given the pulse, recognise the time signature of a rhythm, played twice by the examiner.
Musical genre
Candidates will be requested to play the genres listed on the genres page
Viva Voce
Candidates will be asked a maximum of 6 questions relating to either the pieces played or the drum kit, see the viva voce page.
MARKS DISTRIBUTED AS FOLLOWS:
Pass: 55-69
Pass with Merit: 70-84
Pass with Distinction: 85-100
